If SS22 fashion weeks are anything to go by, next season is going to be a scorcher, regardless of whether you're soaking up the sun during your first holiday in what seems like forever, or you're distancing yourself from the social world through your garden once again. As far as fashion is concerned, winter isn't so bad. Following the end of the lockdown, our post-lockdown wardrobes are being overwhelmed with AW21 trends, which are much more tempting than the tracksuits we have worn lately and enable us to enjoy those occasional forays back into society all the more.
If anything makes the cold season more appealing, it is undoubtedly the wardrobe updates that it encourages, whether it's super-sized knits that double as wraparound duvets on ultra-cold days or Meghan Markle's favorite 'solo saturation'. It's true that nothing beats a summer wardrobe full of carefree style, and SS22's is a whole lot more nostalgic, celebratory and light-hearted than anything we've seen in a while.
Here's what's in store: ULTRA mini minis, super sheer fabrics, outerwear as underwear, neons of the '90s, low-slung waists of the '00s, and yes, more cut-out…
See the 14 SS22 trends you'll all be chasing next season...
LOW RISE WAISTS
Come spring 2022, high-rise jeans are gone, and things get a whole lot more '00s, as low-rise jeans make their way back to the forefront of sartorial consciousness. In these styles, it's all about bare midriffs, so opting for a low-rise over a long knit has little trend value. Instead, go with cropped tops for a full dose of '00s drama.
PLEATED SKIRTS
Zanini Summer Spring Collection 2022
As for the most popular trends this season, the pleated skirt continues to be one of the most popular. While there were a few mini versions reminiscent of this summer's tennis skirt, the pleated midi remains the hottest choice. Besides that, the sky's the limit. Tops with pleats can be printed, plain, colorful, monochrome, paired with knits, or paired with a bralette, as long as the pleats are present.
LIQUID METAL SHEENS
Metallic spangle will be accessible by next season without the need for sequins, which are harmful to the environment. As an alternative, why not consider liquid metal sheens; a subtler, more grown-up and contemporary way to add shine? Usually - but not exclusively - found in golds and silvers, these sheeny dreams create a feeling of molten metal as luxurious, shimmering fabric naturally falls around you.
SHEER BLISS
Acne Studios SS Collection 2022
Ludovic De Saint Sernin SS 2022
Spring is a great time for super sheer fabrics to make a comeback, a trend best suited for those who want to get back into fashion after spending two years wearing tracksuits. Among the most versatile trends for SS22, these can be cleverly layered to protect modesty.
